Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, this medium-sized hosta forms a dense, mound-like clump of blue-green foliage. Its most distinctive features are the ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins, a light corrugation, and a subtle sheen on the upper surface, contrasting with a dull underside.
In the Garden
'Brigham Blue' reaches a mature spread of approximately 35 inches (89 cm) and a height of 13 inches (33 cm), with scapes rising 28 to 31 inches (71 to 79 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is noted for its tough constitution and ability to form a solid blue clump. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formula. The thick leaves provide good slug and deer resistance, though monitoring may still be necessary in high-pressure areas.
