Overview
Registered in 2013 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Rhythm and Blues', 'Brentwood Blues' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its medium blue-green leaves with pure white, flat margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and exhibit light folding and waviness.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 20 inches (50.8 cm) and height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), 'Brentwood Blues' forms a compact, mound-like clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color and white margins remain most distinct. Companion plantings may include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or other miniature hostas that complement its restrained stature.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended for typical hosta-growing zones.
