Overview
Registered in 1972 by F. Brownell Woodroffe, this small hosta originated as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa'. It is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with gold margins, a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, and leaf dimensions of 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide with 13 vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Brenner Pass' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its gold margins remain most vivid. Its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, and it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other small perennials. It also adapts readily to container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially in dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; slug protection may be warranted in damp conditions, though deer resistance is typical for hostas.
