Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Breathless' is a small, mound-forming hosta resulting from open-pollinated *Hosta tibae*. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green, ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins, a dull upper surface, and a moderate glaucous bloom on the underside, combined with a compact, low profile.
In the Garden
'Breathless' reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and spreads to 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, rounded mound. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or other low-growing woodland perennials. Its small size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, though the glaucous leaf coating may offer some resistance.
