Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Tiny Tears', 'Bread Crumbs' is a miniature hosta distinguished by its small, ovate leaves with creamy white centers and medium green, flat margins. Among the smallest hosta cultivars in cultivation, it forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate.
In the Garden
'Bread Crumbs' is best suited to partial to full shade, where its diminutive size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Its mature dimensions—a low mound roughly the size of a dinner plate—allow it to pair well with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or fine-textured groundcovers such as *Sedum* or *Thymus*. The plant is particularly effective in containers or as an edging specimen where its small leaves can be appreciated at close range.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Bread Crumbs' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones, though its small stature may make it less conspicuous to browsing animals.
