Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Brazen Hussy' is a large hybrid derived from *H. montana* as the pod parent and *H.* 'Gold Regal' as the pollen parent. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its green leaves with broad, golden yellow flat margins, a color pattern that contrasts sharply with the darker central leaf tissue.
In the Garden
'Brazen Hussy' reaches a mature spread of approximately 52 inches (132 cm) and a height of 36 inches (91 cm), with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and benefits from protection from afternoon sun to prevent marginal burn. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or accent plant in shaded borders and woodland gardens; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Due to its slow growth rate, it is not recommended for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain evenly moist soil, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Brazen Hussy' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
