Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Bouquet' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. nakaiana* (pod parent) and *H.* 'Birchwood Ruffled Queen' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its compact mound of blue-green, ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins and a thin glaucous bloom on the undersides, reaching a mature spread of 40 inches (101.6 cm) and height of 15 inches (38.1 cm).
In the Garden
'Hosta' 'Bouquet' performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. The mound-like habit and fast growth rate allow it to fill space quickly, while the blue-green foliage pairs effectively with golden or chartreuse-leaved companions such as *H.* 'Gold Standard' or *Heuchera* 'Lime Rickey'. Its compact dimensions also suit it for edging along paths or under deciduous trees.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
