Overview
Registered in 1988 by G. & B. McBurnie and the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society, 'Borwick Beauty' is a sport of an unnamed parent. This large cultivar is visually distinctive for its broad, cupped leaves of light chartreuse blue-green, each edged with a wide, irregular gold margin.
In the Garden
'Borwick Beauty' forms a substantial clump reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) both in length and width. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers hold their color well and the gold margins remain bright without scorching. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or for the middle to back of a shaded border, where it pairs effectively with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Borwick Beauty' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
