Overview

Registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Borsch 4' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its upright, fast-growing habit and variegated foliage. The leaves are ovate with a flat base, medium green with slightly rippled margins, and bear a slight gloss on the upper surface with a dull underside.

In the Garden

This hosta forms a stately clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height, with scapes rising to 36.25 inches (92.1 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its upright growth habit makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. The fast growth rate allows it to fill space quickly, and it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or repellents.
