Overview
Registered in 1986 by H. Weissenberger, this miniature cultivar arose as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Blue Cadet'. 'Booka' is distinguished by its compact, low-growing habit and blue-green foliage with cordate leaf bases, forming a dense mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter and only 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall.
In the Garden
'Booka' is well suited to shaded or partially shaded positions in the garden, where its miniature stature makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border. At maturity, the plant reaches approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height with a spread of 14 inches (35.6 cm), and its small, blue-green leaves—each 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) long and 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) wide with six vein pairs—create a tidy, textured groundcover. Companion plants such as small ferns, *Heuchera*, or miniature *Epimedium* complement its scale, and its compact size makes it particularly well suited for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly in typical hosta-growing zones.
