Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Bold and Brassy' is a large hosta of unknown parentage. It is visually distinguished by its broad, blue-green leaves with golden yellow margins, a glaucous bloom on the undersides, and a semi-upright to mounding growth habit.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 51 inches (129.5 cm) and a height of 26 inches (66.0 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or accent in partial to full shade. Its large, cupped, moderately corrugated leaves with 14 to 17 vein pairs provide substantial textural contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or heucheras. It is not suited for container cultivation due to its large size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
