Overview
Registered in 2009 by D. Beilstein and M. Zilis, this small hosta cultivar is a stable hybrid of *H.* 'Beatrice' and *H.* 'Rhapsody in Blue'. It is visually distinctive for its medium green, ovate leaves with narrow, flat margins that emerge yellow and mature to creamy white, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Bogie and Bacall' reaches 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and spreads to 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and its small size makes it well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants may include ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials that complement its muted green-and-white foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate management may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
