Overview
Registered in 1990 by R. Davidson, G. Schenk, and P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Blythe Spirit' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with several undulating margins and a compact, mounded habit.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter and 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in height, with leaves 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 2.75 inches (7.0 cm) wide bearing nine vein pairs. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and its small size makes it well-suited for rock gardens, edging, or container cultivation. Companion plants may include ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on the tender new foliage.
