Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Blueper' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Fragrant Blue'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Halcyon'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue, flat leaf margins and broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves with a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Blueper' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is well-suited to small garden spaces, rock gardens, or container cultivation due to its compact size. Companion plants include shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or small *Carex* species.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Blueper' may require protection from slugs and deer, particularly in damp conditions.
