Overview
Registered in 2001, this giant hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *H.* 'Sea Prize' and *H. hypoleuca*. Its most distinctive features are the large, deeply corrugated, blue-green leaves with prominent white margins, often displaying occasional greenish-yellow and creamy white streaks, combined with a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Bluegrass Country' forms an upright, fast-growing clump reaching 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and white margins hold color well. The substantial leaf size and corrugated texture make it a strong specimen plant or a bold accent in mixed shade borders, pairing effectively with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves show moderate resistance to slugs, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions.
