Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Blueberry Tart' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Blue Cadet' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Fall Bouquet' (pollen parent). The plant is distinguished by its tight, mound-like habit of boat-shaped, medium blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, slightly rippled margins, and pink-lavender flowers that appear in July.
In the Garden
'Blueberry Tart' reaches a mature diameter of 22 inches (55.9 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its compact size. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials that complement its blue-green foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The glaucous leaf coating may be susceptible to slug damage; monitor and manage as needed. Deer resistance is typical for hostas, though not guaranteed.
