Overview

Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Blueberry Patch' is a large, slow-growing cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Galaxy'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Maekawa'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its deeply corrugated, broadly ovate leaves that are blue-green with a glaucous bloom beneath, heavily streaked with irregular patches of golden yellow and greenish yellow along slightly rippled, gold margins.

In the Garden

'Blueberry Patch' reaches a mature size of approximately 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and gold variegation are most pronounced. The large, textured leaves provide strong contrast when paired with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras; its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or accent in shaded borders and woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through routine monitoring or protective measures.
