Overview
Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society, 'Blue Wedgwood' is a medium-sized hosta derived from the *H.* Tardiana Group. Its distinctive blue-green foliage, with leaves measuring 7.6 inches (19.3 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide, forms a dense, rounded clump with 12 pairs of veins per leaf and blue-green margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature height of 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) and a spread of 22 inches (55.9 cm), making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its compact habit pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and it performs adequately in containers when provided with consistent moisture.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Blue Wedgwood' shows typical hosta resistance to deer, slug control may be necessary in damp conditions to prevent foliar damage.
