Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, *Hosta* 'Blue Vamp' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The foliage is lightly cupped and moderately corrugated, with flat margins and six to eight pairs of veins, giving the plant notable substance and texture despite its compact size.
In the Garden
'Blue Vamp' reaches approximately 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate that makes it well suited for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or troughs. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue coloration is most pronounced, and pairs effectively with fine-textured companions such as ferns or small sedges. Its small stature also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
