Overview

Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster (AHS), this small-sized hosta produces narrow, lance-shaped leaves of blue-green with a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The cultivar is distinguished by its slim leaf profile, pointed tips, and flat blue margins, combined with a compact, mound-like habit.

In the Garden

'Blue Sliver' reaches approximately 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in height and spreads to 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature hostas. Its moderate growth rate and good leaf substance contribute to reliable garden performance.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Blue Sliver' exhibits good substance, standard precautions against slugs and deer are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
