Overview
Registered in 2001, 'Blue Ridge Mountains' is a large hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Galaxy' (pod parent) and *H. hypoleuca* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, deeply corrugated blue-green leaves with wide, greenish-yellow, slightly rippled margins, the pronounced veining and undulating surface evoking mountainous terrain.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial, upright mound reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and gold margins hold color well; too much sun may scorch the leaves. Its large size and bold texture make it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border, paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to establish and during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer good slug resistance, though standard precautions may be needed in damp conditions; typical hosta-growing zones apply.
