Overview

Registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Blue Mist' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Max' distinguished by its unstable, misty white center variegation against blue-green margins. The leaf center displays four unstable veins that produce a mottled, misted appearance, while the 2-inch-wide margins remain blue-green with slight rippling.

In the Garden

'Blue Mist' reaches a mature diameter of 39 inches (99.1 cm) and height of 24 inches (61.0 cm) with an upright, moderate growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the blue-green coloration is most pronounced. Its medium size and ovate, corrugated leaves with cordate bases make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and apply appropriate controls if needed.
