Overview

Registered in 2010 by P. & J. Ruh, this giant hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta sieboldiana*. It is distinguished by its intensely blue-green, heavily textured leaves that retain a glaucous bloom on the upper surface, combined with an upright, substantial habit reaching 34 inches in height and 58 inches in diameter.

In the Garden

'Blue Mammoth' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue foliage color is most pronounced. At maturity, it forms a massive clump nearly 5 feet across, making it suitable as a specimen plant or as a bold accent in the middle to back of a shaded border. Its large, corrugated leaves pair well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other fine-textured shade perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, to support its large leaf area. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require management in damp conditions; deer resistance is typical for blue-leaved cultivars.
