Overview
Registered in 1986 by Nesmith and the American Hosta Society, 'Blue Frost' is a giant hosta cultivar derived from *Hosta sieboldiana*. It is visually distinctive for its large, heavily textured blue-green leaves with blue-green margins, reaching 14.5 inches (36.8 cm) long and 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) wide, with 17 to 18 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Blue Frost' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color most effectively. As a giant hosta, mature plants form substantial clumps suitable for use as a specimen or in the middle to back of shaded borders. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, textured leaves.
Care Notes
Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Blue Frost' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
