Overview
Registered in 1976 by P. Aden, this medium-sized cultivar arose as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Tokudama'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green foliage with pronounced blue margins, a leaf shape that forms a dense, mounding clump, and its relatively compact habit.
In the Garden
'Blue Fan Dancer' reaches approximately 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height, making it suitable for the middle to front of a shaded border or woodland garden. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue leaf coloration is most pronounced. Companion plants might include ferns, *Heuchera*, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, cupped leaves.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents are advisable, as both pests can damage the foliage.
