Overview

Registered in 1980 by E. Minks, this selfed seedling of *Hosta* 'Tokudama' produces a giant, dense mound of heavily textured, blue-green foliage. The leaves are distinguished by silvery blue margins, prominent veining (12 pairs), and a deeply cupped form that gives the plant a domed silhouette.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Blue Dome' reaches 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and spreads to 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or as a bold accent in partially shaded borders. It performs best in light to moderate shade, where its blue coloration is most pronounced. The substantial leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other fine-textured perennials that contrast its broad, corrugated foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, blue-green leaves show moderate resistance to slug damage, though standard preventative measures are advisable in wet seasons. Deer may browse the foliage in areas where pressure is high.
