Overview
Registered in 1993, *Hosta* 'Blue Delight' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Mammoth' that produces a giant clump of heavily rippled, medium blue-green leaves. The foliage is distinguished by its substantial size—leaves reaching 14.5 inches (36.8 cm) in length and 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) in width—with cordate bases, 19 pairs of veins, and a slightly shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound 22 inches (55.9 cm) tall and 56 inches (142.2 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in shade and partial shade borders. Its large, blue-green foliage provides strong contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or astilbes. The plant is too large for typical container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard hosta precautions apply: monitor for slugs and snails, and protect from deer browsing where these pests are prevalent.
