Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Blue Chiffon' is a large-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive features are the broad, cupped leaves of blue-green with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, slightly rippled margins, and moderate corrugation.
In the Garden
'Blue Chiffon' reaches a mature size of approximately 30 inches (76 cm) in spread and 24 inches (61 cm) in height, with leaves measuring 11.75 inches (29.8 cm) long and 8.25 inches (21.0 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage maintains its color. Suitable companions include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it appropriate for mid-border or as a specimen in woodland gardens, though it is not recommended for containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or repellents in typical hosta-growing zones.
