Overview
Registered in 2000, this medium-sized cultivar was developed from *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' and a seedling of the same parent. 'Blue Canopy' is distinguished by its blue-green foliage with slightly rippled margins, a dull surface on both leaf sides, and a cordate leaf base.
In the Garden
'Blue Canopy' forms a mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with leaves 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the blue coloration is most pronounced. Its medium size and slow growth rate make it suitable for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. Companion plants might include ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
