Overview
Registered in 1987 by K. Vaughn, this large hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams'. It forms a substantial mound of heavily textured, blue-green leaves with distinct blue-green margins, reaching 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in height.
In the Garden
'Blue Bayou' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color most effectively. At maturity, this cultivar forms a dense, rounded clump suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in shaded beds. Its large leaves and substantial size make it an effective groundcover under deciduous trees, though it requires adequate spacing from competing root systems.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Blue Bayou' is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in typical hosta-growing zones.
