Overview
Registered in 1999 by Japanese breeder H. Sugita, this medium-sized cultivar combines parentage from *Hosta longipes* and *Hosta pycnophylla*. The plant is distinguished by its very shiny, medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a dull underside, forming a dense, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, this hosta performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for the genus. Its moderate growth rate and compact, rounded form make it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers. The purple scapes, which rise 22 inches (55.9 cm) above the foliage, provide vertical interest.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
