Overview
Registered in 1985 by R. Savory, this miniature hosta cultivar derives from a cross between *Hosta longissima* (pod parent) and an unnamed green seedling (pollen parent). 'Bitsy Green' is distinguished by its narrow, glossy, variegated leaves with dark green margins and a compact, low-growing habit reaching only 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and height of 4 inches (10.2 cm), 'Bitsy Green' forms a tidy, low mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. Its small size and narrow leaves (5 inches long by 0.75 inch wide) make it an excellent candidate for container culture. It performs best in partial to dappled shade and pairs well with other miniature perennials such as small ferns or creeping sedums.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
