Overview
Registered in 1985 by R. Savory, this miniature hosta originated from a cross between *Hosta longissima* (pod parent) and a yellow seedling. 'Bitsy Gold' is visually distinctive for its narrow, lance-shaped green leaves with gold margins, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold-centered, green-margined form common in small hostas.
In the Garden
'Bitsy Gold' forms a compact clump reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter at maturity. Its small stature and narrow leaves (5 inches long, 0.75 inch wide) make it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, and the front of borders. It pairs naturally with other miniature hostas or small woodland perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. The plant tolerates partial shade to dappled sun; in too much shade the gold margins may fade to chartreuse.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, 'Bitsy Gold' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for leaf holes and protect with barriers or repellents if necessary. It performs reliably in typical hosta-growing zones.
