Overview
Registered in 2009, 'Bippity Boppity Blue' is a small blue-green hosta originating from a seedling of unknown parentage. Its distinctive appearance combines the compact, blue-leaf character of the Tardiana group with a notably faster growth rate, producing a mound of ovate, lightly cupped and twisted leaves with flat margins and a slightly shiny upper surface.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a compact mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter and 7 inches (17.8 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its blue-green coloration is most pronounced. Suitable companions include ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials; its small size also makes it appropriate for container culture or the front of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on the tender new foliage.
