Overview
Registered in 1998 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Bigfoot' is a giant blue-green cultivar distinguished by its exceptionally large leaves—19 inches (48.3 cm) long and 12 inches (30.5 cm) wide—with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and slightly rippled margins. The cordate leaf base and medium blue-green coloration contribute to its imposing presence in the landscape.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial mound 30 inches (76.2 cm) tall and 68 inches (172.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom remains most pronounced. Its giant size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a backdrop for smaller perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or astilbes; it is not appropriate for containers due to its mature dimensions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though deer may browse the foliage in areas with high pressure.
