Hosta ‘Big and Blue’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2000
Section classI-2

Overview

Registered in 2000, this giant blue-green hosta originated from a cross between *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Blue Seer' (pollen parent). 'Big and Blue' is distinguished by its substantial size, upright habit, and heavily glaucous foliage that produces a pronounced blue bloom on both leaf surfaces.

In the Garden

'Big and Blue' reaches a mature spread of 60 inches (152.4 cm) and a height of 27 inches (68.6 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in partial to full shade. Its slow growth rate and upright form allow it to pair well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade perennials that complement its blue tones. The cordate leaves, measuring 13 inches (33.0 cm) long by 10 inches (25.4 cm) wide, feature 16 pairs of veins and slightly rippled margins.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment, particularly in typical hosta-growing zones. Fertilize in early spring as shoots emerge; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed preventively.
