Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Bette Comfry' is a large, upright cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its heavily textured, very shiny blue-green leaves that are held erect by deep, wide veins, with a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Bette Comfry' reaches a mature diameter of 72 inches (182.9 cm) and a height of 32 inches (81.3 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its substantial, ovate leaves with cordate bases and dark green flat margins pair well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The upright leaf habit and moderate growth rate allow it to maintain a tidy form without aggressive spreading.
Care Notes
Water regularly to establish, then maintain consistent moisture during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and protect as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
