Overview

Registered in 1986 by the American Hosta Society, 'Betsy King' is a small-sized hosta of unknown parentage. It is visually distinguished by its variegated leaves, which feature medium green margins and a lighter center, measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide with seven pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This compact cultivar forms a symmetrical mound 16 inches (40.6 cm) high and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its small stature also suits container cultivation. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas that share similar moisture and light requirements.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
