Overview
Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Bestman' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Bridegroom' (pod parent) with unknown pollen parentage. It is visually distinctive for its ovate leaves with medium green, heavily rippled margins, dull surfaces, and deeply wavy edges, combined with a less erect growth habit than its parent.
In the Garden
'Bestman' reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, mound-like clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of borders. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, or other small hostas, and it is well-suited for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
