Overview

Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, *Hosta* 'Benedict's Wild Fire' is a small, variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves with medium to dark green, slightly rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and notably dark red petioles that contrast with the leaf blades.

In the Garden

This small hosta forms a mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and is well suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. Its compact size also makes it appropriate for container cultivation. Companion plants might include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or other shade-tolerant perennials with contrasting foliage colors.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through cultural or physical controls.
