Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster through the American Hosta Society, this small-sized cultivar is distinguished by its flowing, mound-like habit and variegated foliage. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, featuring medium green, slightly rippled margins that are moderately corrugated, lightly twisted, and lightly wavy, with a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside.
In the Garden
'Benedict's Heart's Desire' forms a compact mound 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) wide, with a fast growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its flowing leaf form and moderate corrugation provide textural contrast. The small size makes it appropriate for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, or other small hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slug and deer damage, the slightly rippled, moderately corrugated leaves of this cultivar may offer minor resistance compared to smoother-leaved varieties.
