Overview

Registered in 2015 by D. and J. Ward, *Hosta* 'Bellville' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Hearts and Flowers' (pod parent) with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its medium green leaves with broad, pale yellow margins that are slightly rippled, creating a strong variegated contrast.

In the Garden

'Bellville' forms a symmetrical mound 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall and 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its substantial leaves provide good ground coverage. The large, cordate leaves with lightly wavy edges make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Bellville' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
