Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Bellville Magic' is a giant, mound-forming cultivar derived from *H.* 'Pin Stripe Sister' as seed parent, with unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its large, nearly round leaves that emerge blue and transition to dark green with age, featuring slightly rippled, dark green margins, moderate corrugation, and a dull surface on both sides.

In the Garden

'Bellville Magic' reaches a mature spread of 34 inches (86.4 cm) and a height of 26 inches (66.0 cm), forming a dense, moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its large, textured foliage. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or for filling mid-border positions in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, the thick, corrugated leaves of 'Bellville Magic' may offer moderate resistance; monitor and manage as needed.
