Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Jewel of the Nile' registered in 2004, 'Bell Bottom Blues' forms a fountain-like mound of heavily wavy, blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The cultivar is distinguished by its broadly ovate, cordate-based foliage with pronounced wavy margins and pinkish petioles that extend into the scape.
In the Garden
'Bell Bottom Blues' reaches a mature height of 32 inches (81.3 cm) with a spread of 26 inches (66.0 cm), placing it in the medium size class. Its upright, moderate growth habit and wavy blue-green leaves make it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade, where the glaucous bloom is best preserved. The pinkish petioles and scape provide subtle contrast, and the cultivar pairs well with ferns or other shade perennials of similar stature.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Bell Bottom Blues' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
