Overview
Registered in 1980 by E. Minks, this large hosta arose as a sport of a *H. fortunei* seedling. It is distinguished by its green leaves with white margins, which also exhibit green streaking into the white border, creating a variegated effect.
In the Garden
'Hosta Banana Sundae' forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with individual leaves up to 18 inches (45.7 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
