Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Banana Puddin' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Peter Pan' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Sun Power' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its green leaf centers with gold, slightly rippled margins, and its compact, low-growing mound habit.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches approximately 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter at maturity, forming a dense, slow-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves with cordate bases and wavy margins provide textural contrast when paired with fine-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so preventive measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
