Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Lakeside Banana Bay', registered in 2014, 'Banana Kid' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, moderately corrugated green leaves with flat yellow margins and a notably banana-yellow scape. The leaf blades measure 4.75 inches (12.1 cm) in both length and width, with eight pairs of veins and a cordate base; the upper surface is slightly shiny, the lower dull.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 15.75 inches (40.0 cm) in height and 23.625 inches (60.0 cm) in diameter with a moderate growth rate, 'Banana Kid' is suitable for the front of a border, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for small hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or small sedges. Its compact size and yellow scape make it a useful accent in small-scale plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on the young foliage.
