Overview

Registered in 2012 by Q&Z Nursery as a sport of *Hosta* 'Blaze of Glory', 'Badge of Glory' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, golden yellow margins that are slightly rippled. The leaf blades are broadly ovate with cordate bases, measuring 11 inches (27.9 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide, bearing 13 vein pairs, and displaying a dull upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath; the gold margins are variable in width, and a green splatch often appears within the margin, lending the foliage a bicolored effect.

In the Garden

'Badge of Glory' forms a substantial mound 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall and 44 inches (111.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to light shade, where the gold margins remain bright without scorching, and in consistently moist, well-drained soil. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or for the middle to back of a shaded border, paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain even soil moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
