Overview
Registered in 2008, 'Baby Doll' is a miniature sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Cadet' notable for its intense blue-green leaf margins surrounding a yellow center, creating a high-contrast variegation reminiscent of a small *Hosta* 'June'. The broadly ovate leaves measure 2.3 inches (5.8 cm) long by 1.7 inches (4.3 cm) wide, with seven vein pairs, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and a lightly folded blade.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 4.3 inches (10.9 cm) and height of 1.5 inches (3.8 cm), 'Baby Doll' forms a compact mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with other miniature cultivars or fine-textured shade perennials such as *Carex* or *Heuchera*. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; minimal division is required due to its moderate growth rate. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage.
