Overview
Registered in 2006, *Hosta* 'Baby Blue Eyes' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Cody' and *H.* 'Dorset Blue'. It forms a dense, mound-like clump of broadly ovate, heart-shaped leaves with cordate bases, notable for their medium blue-green color and glaucous bloom on both surfaces.
In the Garden
'Baby Blue Eyes' reaches approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter at maturity, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous foliage color is most pronounced. Its compact size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with small ferns or fine-textured groundcovers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many blue-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and snail damage, though its small, cupped leaves may offer some resistance; deer may browse the foliage in areas where they are present.
